Holiday greetings from “the brain” behind footnoted.org…

kumara-sec.jpg People often ask me how I read so many SEC filings. Now the secret can be told: I have a very capable assistant, who works for marrow bones (sometimes stuffed with peanut butter) and the ability to pull the squeaky out of stuffed toys. Meet Kumara, who each night, scans hundreds of seemingly boring SEC filings and finds the nuggets that you read here on footnoted.org.

The staff at footnoted.org wants to wish each and every one a happy last night of Hanukkah, a wonderful Christmas and a year full of wonders and surprises (especially late on a Friday before a holiday weekend). And, a quick programming note, I’ll be appearing on CNBC at 11:20 today to talk about Hank McKinnell’s hefty payout, so gotta fly. There’s a link to the interview here, though be forewarned that CNBC apparently changed its policy over the weekend and now requires people to subscribe for a fee.

For those who missed Michelle earlier today, here’s a link to the CNBC video:

A great point that Michelle made was that we don’t even know for sure if McKinnell is getting a full tax gross-up on the severance pay, which would boost the eye-popping payout even further!

Today should see a lot more interesting filings - more hard work for Kumara!

Indeed. I’ll have a more complete post about this on Tuesday, but among those filing 10-Ks late yesterday were Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) and Agilent (A). I’ve yet to look at either one, but judging by the timing alone, there must be something interesting in there. Among those filing Qs late Friday were FedEx (FDX) and Costco (COST). And there were more than 60 8-Ks filed after 5 p.m. yesterday. Some things really never change!

Happy Holidays! I’ve been reading this blog for a long time, and the content’s fantastic. Wish you would focus more on valuation issues — he who’s given much for free always wants more, right? Your blog is right up with Sharesleuth.com as my must-reads.

I try to view the video and it keeps asking me to sign onto CNBC and requires a credit card. What gives?

  6. ML Says:

Not sure why CNBC’s site is doing that. It worked fine on Friday, but something apparently changed over the weekend and they are now requiring people to sign in with a credit card. Sorry for the inconvenience.
